[Update: Has anyone seen this film? I have not heard much about it since it came out. I missed it in the theater run and haven't picked up the DVD yet.]

There is a lot of excitement about the release of the new film "New World." The movie recreates the original settlement of Jamestown by the British and their relationships with the native people they encountered. I intend to see the film and when I do I will share my views here on the TimeLog. In the meantime I thought this article from National Geographic was an interesting insight into the amount of trouble the films creators took to achieve authenticity. If you see the movie I would love to hear what you think about it.

Apparently the DVD is not out yet. I can't find it in the theaters anywhere so I guess I will review it when the DVD is available. Thank goodness for NetFlix.

I finally got to see the movie. Unfortunately, it was on the airplane and the high noise level distorted the soundtrack quite a bit. It seemed a little slow and spent too much time on the historically unverified love affair between John Smith and Pocahontas I thought but it seemed to do a fair job of depicting the situation and the historical events seemed more or less accurate. I intend to watch it again sometime in a more congenial environment but I think it is worth watching for colonial history buffs.
