History Today8/28/1963 - During a 200,000-person civil rights rally at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., Martin Luther King, Jr. gives his famous "I have a dream" speech.

Although the Civil Rights movement had been building momentum through the years leading up to this moment, Dr. King's speech seemed to hit a very strong chord with the people and the Civil Rights movement took on a new level of energy and ligitimacy from then on.
