History Today10/6/1889 - Thomas Edison shows his first motion picture
10/6/1927 - Opening of The Jazz Singer, the first prominent talking movie.

Today we can celebrate two big steps on the way to a major cultural touchstone. It didn't take a lot of time to get all the way from that frivolous new idea, to the "more or less" final form of moving pictures that we all know and love today. Who can imagine what form that movies will take as we move into our next rounds of technology. All we know for certain is that they will be there, in some form.
