History Today

1/22/1973 - The Supreme Court of the United States delivers its decision in Roe v. Wade striking down state laws restricting abortion during the first six months of pregnancy.

“We … acknowledge our awareness of the sensitive and emotional nature of the abortion controversy, of the vigorous opposing views, even among physicians, and of the deep and seemingly absolute convictions that the subject inspires.” - - Justice Blackmun (1973), majority opinion in Roe v. Wade

This story has been, more or less, in the news and in the public eye since its controversial inception. Many believe that the Supreme Court, given recent appointments of conservative leaning judges, is close to overturning the Roe v. Wade decision.
