Any Oklahoma fans out there?  Or just wondering what they are all about?  Oklahoma became the 46th state in 1907. To commemorate the Centennial of Statehood in 2007, the Oklahoma Historical Society, with funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities, developed the Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History & Culture to inform and educate citizens, students, historians, and the world at large about the fascinating history of this most unusual state. The Encyclopedia contains articles written by leading scholars in the field and is published by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The online edition is presented by the Oklahoma State University Library Electronic Publishing Center.

The State Department of the United States has set up a new Office of the Historian.  This site is primarily a depository for historic documents but the scope is quite impressive.  The available material is grouped by Theme and by Administration as well as by countries involved.   I like the Milestones section that summarizes important relations that we have had with the rest of the world throughout our County's life.

Another interesting site from the Library of Congress, Chronicling America offers access to the content of historic newspapers.  Only a limited number of states and dates are available currently but more is planned in the future.  There is also an index of published newspapers available.

Just wanted to point you to one of my favorite web sites, HistoryLink.org.   HistoryLink.org bills itself as a free online encyclopedia and that is pretty accurate if you are talking about Seattle history.  It is full of unique content pulled from local collections and historical archives.  If you are Seattle/Puget Sound area local, you will find a lot of memories and even if you aren't there is plenty of interesting history to keep you busy.  Spend some time there, I bet you will like it.

This collection of memorabilia was bequeathed to the Library of Congress in 1953 by Alfred Whital Stern.  It is an amazing collection of artifacts from the life and times of Abraham Lincoln.  I don't know about you but I think this takes the idea of collectibles to an entirely new level.
