Break

This is, of course, our very own cycle. It is really a little early to give it a name but I am leaning towards a title that reflects both the political and technical strength of the United States since World War II. Let's call it the Global Power Cycle. Beginning with the birth of our version of the idealist generation, the Baby Boomers (approximately 1943), and continuing to this very day. As the boomers approached adulthood, the '60s became our spiritual event and even now the young civic generation (now in their early 30's), are gathering the strength of character from the adult boomers to take on the coming secular event due in approximately 2015 to 2025. The new Artists are now in grade school and are steeped in the digital culture that has blossomed in the last decade. These are the first from my own generational type. It remains to be seen how they will square up to meet the coming changes. I suspect they will go along and do what is necessary.

Author's Family History: This era coincides with the beginning of my adult life. Newly married and with a new degree in hand, my spouse and I left the State in which we had spent our youth (California) and settled in Washington State, on our own, to begin my career and build a family. Both of our children were born in this time period. Our parents were all in California enjoying the later portion of their adult lives. Ivan (Hap) was working at Rockwell Aviation and Delbert was nearing retirement at the Long Beach Naval Shipyards. Audrey (Babe) and Hazel were traditional homemakers with their children recently out of the house. During this time, tragically, Ivan (Hap) experienced an unexpected heart attack and died at the early age of 57. Audrey (Babe), now a young widow, soon moved out of the Los Angeles area to be near her daughter. Four of our eight grandparents were enjoying their senior years up until this time. My spouse's grandmother Nellie had died just prior to this era and my grandmother Mabel died just as it started but my father's parents had recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in California and were still enjoying their retirement years in California and then Oregon. Sadly, Fred passed away at the age of 83, the same year as my father (and his son) died. The loss of the first two from this close knit family in the same year was very difficult.

All Generational Baseball Team: Roger Clemens, Mike Piazza, Mark McGuire, Craig Biggio, Barry Larkin, Robin Ventura, Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., Jose Canseco (Some late-comers to this generation are still top players today, including Albert Pujols, Josh Hamilton (on the cusp), Adrian Beltre and Jose Bautista).

American Timeline Events: Martin Luther King, Jr. assassination (1968)

Foreign Contemporaries: Princess Diana, Nicole Kidman, Benicio Del Toro

Foreign Timeline Events: Iraqi President Hasan al-Bakr resigns and is replaced by Saddam Hussein (1979).

Information Revolution Era - 3rd Turning, Unraveling (1981-2000)

Cohorts: Millennial Generation - Hero, Civic Type - (1982-2000?)
The Olsen Twins, Labron James

Presidents:

Author's Family History: During these years my spouse and I entered into mid-life and enjoyed the prime of our adult lives in the Seattle area. I engaged in the most productive period of my career and my spouse opened and run her own successful business. Our children grew up and transitioned into young adulthood. During this time I lost my mother, Audrey (Babe), and my spouse lost both of her parents Delbert and Hazel, in California, and one of our grandparents, my fraternal grandmother Mary (Bessie), lived until the age of 93 and passed away in Oregon.

All Generational Baseball Team: Most of the top players today are from this generation, with a few holdovers from the previous era, and they will be dominating baseball for most of the next decade. A good Generational Team, for now, might consist of Buster Posey (C), Justin Verlander (SP)/Craig Kimbrel (RP), Prince Fielder (1B), Robinson Cano (2B), Jose Reyes (SS), Miguel Cabrera (3B), Mike Trout (LF), Adam Jones (CF) and Giancarlo Stanton (RF).

Coming Crisis (Powerdown Era?) - 4th Turning, Crisis (2001?-2222?)

Cohorts: Homeland? Generation - Artist, Adaptive Type
Coming Attractions, circa 2001.

Presidents:

Author's Family History: In this, the present era, it is my turn to hand over the reigns to my children. They are establishing their own lives, my wife and I have retired and our parents have passed away. We have got to travel a bit and are enjoying the pleasure of grand-parenting. All of my grandchildren were or will be born during this era. It is a time of reflection for me and a time for all of us to prepare for the coming generational revolution. Whether we want to accept it or not, climate change and/or resource limits will soon require us to power down and prepare for a very different future than we have all assumed. This will not happen easily.

All Generational Baseball Team: These players are not quite ready yet but they have started to play. Look at the little leaguers down the street. They are probably getting their skills tuned up right now to become the next generation of superstars.

American Timeline Events: World Trade Center 9/11 bombings (2001), Hurricane Katrina (2005)
